NIGHTSCREAM is the second book in the Thomas Family series and since it pretty much co-stars the couple from "Sandman" which is book one, I'd highly recommend reading it first. There are basically two plots going on simultaneously throughout this story; the first is about Deputy Jillian "Jilly" Reid and FBI Special Agent Cody Thomas. After they discover an underwater graveyard, they partner up to find a twisted serial killer who tortures his female victims before finally ending their suffering... The second revolves around Cody's brother, Jesse "J.J." Thomas and and his girlfriend Meagan McInnis (from Sandman.) When her sister runs off with a visiting minister, abandoning her husband and two little girls, Meagan becomes concerned. Then Thomas runs a background check on the mysterious new man and they realize both her sister and her nieces lives may be in jeopardy.

Well, I really enjoyed this story which was fast paced and never boring, although I did have to suspend belief every now and then. I also really liked Jilly and Cody who had great chemistry and whose banter made me smile, though at times their humor was kind of inappropriate for the circumstances. However, that same humor kept this from being a truly dark read which it should have been considering the gruesomeness of the crimes. I'll admit it took me about 1/3 of the way in before Meagan's family drama caught my interest, but after that I became thoroughly engrossed in that storyline too. On occasion both couples acted more like teenagers than thirty-somethings, but I didn't let it bother me. Overall it was a thrilling read full of twists and turns, mystery, suspense and romance. While at times unrealistic it was definitely entertaining, and I look forward to the next story in the series.

This book keeps you wondering who the killer is and why they are trying to destroy the FBI' s agents life. What did he do to deserve this. It's a great book and I plan on reading more
Thoroughly enjoyed this thriller about a serial killer at Big Bear Lake. Main characters Jilly and Cody must deal with a serial killer's body dump as the bodies keep piling up. A subplot has Jesse and Meaghan from book 1 in the series not only appearing but dealing with a separate mystery. The setting is appealing although the plot and characters are a little underdeveloped. Having just these two characters investigating a serial killer of this magnitude just isn't credible. All in all, it's a good read.
From page 1 I was hooked...read this in 2 days as i needed to know what happened...keep in mind there are 2 stories going on but the main focus is on the new brother cody..
I enjoyed reading the second book in the series. If you haven't read the first book Sandman I recommend that you do because it was a terrific book as well;however, it is not imperative to do so because Night scream stands on its own but why not treat yourself to both books. Fast paced and it keeps you guessing until the end!
It was supposed to be a vacation for Cody Megan and JJ. How did they end up in the middle of not 1 but 2 psycho cases? Throw in JILLIAN who is not the old flame for Cody but the new flame with detective skills. You can't get much better than 2 sexy brothers who know how to take down serial killers. This serial killer will shock you. It's definitely not the normal.
The description of a watery grave site will stay with you for a long time! Big Bear, California and a Detective who just wants a nice boring career after working in L.A., Jillian Reid. This romantic suspense has lots of twists and surprises. At times funny, at times horrible, the serial killer in this story reaches heights of depravity that will have you checking your windows and door locks frequently. At the same time, the romance between Jilly and Cody Thomas is wonderfully played out. Another really enjoyable read by Ms.MacDonald!
I had never read any books by Morgan Hannah MacDonald before downloading a free copy of Sandman. I was so impressed by her writing that I immediately downloaded her other three books. Nightscream was even better than Sandman and I am currently starting Last Scream. I am a prolific reader and when I find an author who has this much talent, I will read everything she ever writes. The plot is very fast paced with interesting characters and a complicated story line. I look forward to the other 2 books already written and hope she has more stories in a similar vein niggling within her brain even now.
